Default High Idle 4.6

I installed a new OEM electronic throttle body months ago, and my idle rpm is 875 in gear, after warmup. I’ve disconnected the battery cables many times hoping the rpm would reset to my original rpm of around 650. Do I need to have the PCM flashed by a dealer? No codes, runs good.

THANKS for any advice.

I don't think the throttle body is that common of a replacement so maybe nobody has comments.

i typed a reply earlier today on phone, don’t know what it didn’t post.

A throttle re learn is more involved that unplugging batt cables. Go to YouTube and find fordtechmakeuloco video on throttle bodies and the relearn process. You should find at least two on TB. One on a cleaning. Another on the relearn procedure.

Did you use aftermarket or oem . I changed mine years ago for a faulty tb due to old version factory problems known around 05 years . No problem at all . The pcm drives motor on tb to open butter fly for air ratio, on 5.4 their is no iac it just opens butterfly a little at idle . A 4.6 has iac and egr valve . Pcm controls injector pulse width to keep a constant 14/1 ratio . It uses feedback from o2 and maf . it also knows throttle pos from pedal and intake air temp .
Make sure your iac is working . I think it uses vacuum to open an airflow at idle . I doubt if its your problem . After relearn ,I guess I would clean and test injectors. of course you can look at fuel trims short term - long term but its kind of early for that . See then if your o2 are switching .
There must be a reason you switched throttle bodies to start with? Mine would shutdown intermittently at the most inconvenient times for a miss match to prevent a stuck throttle situation . I assume you got the whole unit new with new tps installed . maybe clean your maf .

Thanks Redfishtd, great overview of the tb system. The Ford supplier supposedly shipped an TB matched to my VIN. Now I’ve seeing the EGR code, so I’ll replace it and hope that is the culprit, however, this issue has been ongoing. I did printout an article that tells how to reset the pedal position..
Thanks
