Default HID install

if i can figure out how to post pics i will
i know everyone is probably sick of hearing the name DDM on the forum. but..... i just got my kits in. (2) HID kits, 1 35w 6k high/low h13 kit and 1 35w 6k fog kit, and i really must say... Ive bought ebay kits a few times, only to be pissed off 2 weeks later when them comne in and the bulbs fail or the balast burn out the minute i tun the switch on. ive just installed the kits in my 2007 F150 and all bulbs fired up no problem. well.... i didi have an issue on one 194 peanut bulb. but, oh well. it was a buck. They went in perect. no issues and lok great. it is still day here and i havent seen them in the dark yet but. i am impressed. i wil post pics as soon as the sun goes down. and yes i have stock housings that may cause glare because of the fact i havent spent $400 on the retrofit soure kit but... im a broke *****hole that has HIDs and i think it is wonderful. i will post a few shots when the lighyts go out and everyone can see how they look and for the guys that hate the idea (the glare). yes... they came from China.. damn it. but....

There is no may, they will cause glare. You do realize as well that you are throwing out 2x the lumens? It is ungodly bright and downright rude to do these w/o the projectors.

No kidding. I can't stand incorrectly adjusted headlights or HIDs installed on non-HID specific headlights.

But that's cool, 'cause if they blind me I have 200W of Hella lights to shine back at them!

Don't mean to thread jack. I'm thinking about cracking my lights and painting the reflector surfaces. Would the hid's put out enough light still?

I'm not going to hate on guys who mod their cars distastefully because that's just a matter of personal preference. I don't care of imports with larger exhaust tips than the Borla on my truck. I don't like wings that mounted on roofs or taller than roofs on vehicles incapable of 300km/h. But to me what I really don't like are modifications that jeopardize the safety of the driver and other drivers on the road. And installing HID lights on non-HID specific headlights is a **** poor idea. And not all projectors are meant to be used with HIDs. What you really need is an HID kit with a matching projector capable of handling HIDs and you need to retrofit it properly. Until then you just get a big bright light that is not safe for road use. You may as well be driving around with your high beams on at all times.

I have projector headlights and HIDs and I don't bother anyone but I see people drive around all the time with HIDs in regular headlights and they don't blind me, I'm not a mosquito so I don't look directly in the light and it's fine. Sure they are a little brighter but so what people drive around with fogs on all the time and those really cause glare!

I'm glad I am not the only one who uses them to get people out of my way when they drive slow in the fast lane haha

If it bothers people, don't drive at night. A lot of us can't afford projectors and HID's so by buying a kit off DDM is an alternative route for more light for driving at night. Instead of the crappy stock bulbs.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this post now..

Perhaps you live in an area where people are just accustomed to it. We have quite a large population here and modifying/upgrading vehicles is common. It does not take away from the fact that it is an incorrect procedure and it is almost impossible to aim the headlights properly.

Fog lights are a problem as well as they should be aimed towards the ground.

It may sound contradictory regarding what can be classified as distasteful but there is a difference between distasteful and unsafe, which is what my point was. You can argue what looks good or not, but you can't argue what can cause an accident.

If you can afford to purchase/maintain/upgrade your vehicle then you can afford to do it properly.

And some people just need to work harder, smart and longer to earn a decent cheque to afford proper upgrades. That's the difference between someone who uses Osram LEDs vs. China LEDs, a Borla Cat-Back vs a Dynomax slip-on and a AP Racing Rotors vs. eBay rotors.

Regardless, if you wish to "upgrade" your stock halogens to HIDs without the proper parts then so be it. I have seen kits on eBay for as low as $50 with free shipping. I'll be retrofitting an HID kit on factory headlights in the future using parts from this vendor:

http://www.theretrofitsource.com/

I'll be using FX-3 3.0 projectors, either Atlas or Gatling Gun shrouds, Morimoto 35W ballasts and bulbs, and XB LEDs. This will be around 8-10X more expensive than what you find on eBay but the quality, light output and overall end result will be stellar compared to something cheap that a 16 year old can bolt in.
