Default HID Help

Hey guys,

Soooo I've had these HID's from ddmtuning on for about 6 months already and last night was the first time they gave me some issues. One thing I've always had a problem is that when I use my remote start sometimes only 1 headlight comes on. No problem, quick fix is to shut off the lights and turn them back on, BAM the other one turns on. Now last night was different, I used my remote start, same thing, one turns on and the other doesn't. This time however, when I try to turn them off and turn them back on, NOW BOTH OF THEM CUT OUT....???? I was able to turn them back on after a few minutes. When I got close to the house, they shut off again. Well this morning I tried to turn them on and THEY WORK!!! What is going on???

Thanks

Are the lights turning on at the same time as the engine with your remote start? If so, then the ballasts are being starved of power. The ballasts draw a great deal of voltage to ignite HID bulbs, and when both the engine starter and the HID ballasts are competing for power you get the results you are seeing.

Either that or your HID parts are going bad. This should be expected when you buy cheap HID kits.

You shouldn't be using the auto-lamp feature if you have HID. That's probably what has happened, you used it for long enough that the bulbs are worn out.

When you use the remote start (I have one too) the amperage draw of the starter is so great that it can not provide enough current to the ballasts to fully ignite the bulbs during crank. The bulbs haven't warmed up yet, and then you cut the juice to them momentarily, that's when they fail. So, turn your auto lamps off, and see if it helps. If not, you will likely need new bulbs.

I don't think it's the ballasts, because I assumed you used a relay harness? Did you? If you did, then they are probably okay as you didn't "choke" them as badly.

When you say "auto lamps" do u mean just turning the switch to off on my light switch? Instead of them running automatically? And yes I have a relay on their.

Okay, on your HL switch you have the following:

RED: Auto Lamp - Don't use this with HID's
GREEN: Where you should always return this switch to
YELLOW and BLUE: Turn your switch to these every time.

To save your HID's always manually operate your HL's.

Default HID Problem

Well looks like I found the problem, it seems that the power wire leading into the "wiring harness?" has blown out. A lot of corrosion was found and it was simply able to be pulled out with no effort. Here is a pic:

DDM kits are fairly low end, but are well priced for a beginners kit... I use TRS kits for everything.
