I'm having the same issue as the OP. they work sometimes, And others they don't. I had the 20A fuse to the kit melt the other day.
Which are the wires your saying to invert ?

You could have blown fuses I've done it several times when installing my kits. I would check all your fuses and bump your head light fuses up to a 20 if u haven't already, since your running HIDs.
You might also wanna try switching the orientation of the plugs on your ballasts. In some kits the ballasts and plugs can be polarized and will only work one way. Unfortuneatly the sellers usually neglect to inform you on this. Mine never turned on with my first kit, and I had a guy on here tell me to switch them, and they worked fine since. So it might be that, but it still doesn't make sense that you had them on and then when u cranked the truck they went out.
Did u test the wiring with a volt meter by chance to see if the bulbs/ ballasts are receiving power at all?
The act of you cranking the truck might have overloaded the relay in the harness? There are also usually fuses in the harnesses themselves, you might want to look for one and see if it's blown as well.

Just commenting on one part of the above post:

If you're blowing fuses, you're exceeding the load that the factory wiring is rated for. Increasing the fuse amperage to compensate could lead to problems down the road, up to and including an electrical fire.

You have power back feeding through the high beam circuit. Thats why the indicator shows up on the dash and the fogs dont work (fog lights wont come on with brights, without the bambi mod). The HID are drawing too much current from the factory harness, so you either have something hooked up wrong or you need to run the HID off a relay with the headlamp switch as the signal.

I. Checked all my fuses they look okay to me. There is a 30amp fuse in the relay also but that looks fine to. I don't have a volt checker to see if the relay and bulbs were getting the power, I have the same kit coming in again the dealer sent me another one I case I blew anything or it was a dud. The dealer said the code canceler is suppose to hook up to the ballast and the stock housing but if that's the case where relay plug in?

I've never heard a code eliminator being needed for an f-150, but that's just me.
Where did u get your HIDs from?
Also if u wanna post up some pics of your set up, we might be able to diagnose the problem better if we see how u have it wired up?

Im having same issue. I had Bambi mod and a few days ago my lights came on by themselves while the truck was parked outside. I checked the fog light relay inside and it seemed to have melted down and was all corroded and rusted.
I removed the Bambi mod and put in a new relay. Al was ok for a few days.

Few days later my lights wouldn't turn on and I had blew the 20A fuse on the HID harness. I replaced it and headlights work again. I can't have both on as stated in above post. When I have the fogs on alone I get the dim high beam signal on the dash.

Details...
Kit is DDM.
6K headlights
6K Fogs

For both of you it sounds like a bad ground. This will cause two things no lights or lights never turning off. If you have wire just run the ground from both lights to the battery.
