Hi all.
I'm a newbie.. so hi
. That being said I've got an 2004 FX4 supercab. 90000 clicks and blah blah. Bright red too!
Its got that almost characteristic tick tick tick of the ford engines, its not hurting in fuel mileage or performance so far.. the foot hits the carpet and shes up up and away, so other than being really annoying in a drive-thru is all good. Bought it used, only thing I've done to is had to adjust an airbag shackle, it was loose and rattling.. and cut that god awful hushpower glass pack out that was on it. Poor thing crackled and popped but there was no volume... so we chopped er out and put a chunk of pipe in there for the time being. Shes damn loud now when you jump on it
In the future its more than likely getting dueled... so on to my question.
When one buys a pre bent and cut kit do they require your spare to be removed? Also who gives the best bang for your buck? I'm looking for something with a bit of OMPH to it, but not obnoxiously loud. Its probably going to shootin out the rear, one of the better looking ways to do it on a f150 IMHO..
Cheers folks
Mike

Welcome. As to your question of exhausts, no, the spare tire should not have to be removed. If the kit requires it to be, move on. No exhaust manufacturer in their right mind would have you compromise running your vehicle on public streets without a spare tire in it's stock location. There is plenty of space up and over the rear axle to the left and right of the spare tire to clear out to the back. Sure, you can always throw the spare in the bed, but that's a nasty flying object to anyone behind you should you get involved in an accident. Yep it can be mounted, but why bother when there are exhaust kits made to install without moving the spare tire.
Try this though: visit your local private muffler shop and get a price quote on them installing an exhaust system. Many private shops are very competitive on their prices, and you should be able to find one that will install a system on your truck for the price (and don't forget shipping charges) it would cost you to buy one via the internet or speed shop. I don't know about you, but there are other mods I prefer to do on my truck then lay under the frame and attempt to remove the old exhaust (after 90K on your truck, it's pretty well on there!) and then install a new kit. Here's where a lift, torch, and stands come in real handy!
After the exhaust mod, you'll wake up that engine even more with a free breathing cold air induction system.

Aye, the full kits are generally much more exp as you are paying a premium for THEM with a brandname logo to bend em as opposed to your local Joe Blow Muffler man. Get the muffler and tips you want, and just check around. If you go to a muffler shop chain, Munro, Meineke, ect ect, make sure to check their website as usually have 10% off coupon if spend so much, ect ect.
As requested

Thats Kilometers by the way.. not miles
I do have a friend that can do all the bending and welding for me, I just need to show up with two tips and the muffler, 200$ later it'll be done
