Default Help with MPG.

Ok, so I finally went thru my first tank of in town. The math added up to a whopping 12.5 mpg So I'm looking for mod ideas that will help improve that number. Any ideas?

Ok so first I guess will be CAI and spacer. Is the spacer hard to put in? I ain't turned a wrench since the late 80's.

Don't waste your time with a throttle body spacer.

Well, you're a fellow Texan if I remember correctly, so I'll take your word on it.

Don't mod to improve gas mileage because you'll just end up disappointed. A CAI, exhaust and tuner will give you increased gas mileage, but we're only talking 1-3 mpg's. For those 3 mods you'll spend anywhere from $700-$1200 depending on brands you go with. How long will it take you to recoup that money spent in fuel savings? It'll take you years, that's how long. Those 3 mods are the best performance mods you can do to your truck and may actually decrease gas mileage. Why you ask? Because your truck will see increased HP and will be fun to drive and will sound great at WOT so you'll want to get on the accelerator more often. Mod your truck because you want (1) increased performance and (2) for increased mpg's and you won't be dissappointed.

Are we talkin' 12.5 mpg highway miles, or city miles? When I see the stickers on the windows of the new F150's they all say 14 city/19 hwy. I personally get about 13mpg city and 18 highway and I have a 1996 F150 5.8v8 with 131,000 miles on it.
