Help with a factory cd player problem.
The other day I tried to change the CD in my 6 disc factory player to listen to another one in a different position. Well, it cycled through all the position and gave me a "CD error" message, and now doesn't recognize any CD in any position but there are 6 Cd's in there. It now looks on the outside like the player is empty. Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it?
I had that same thing happen on my 05. Have you got it to say INITIALIZING yet? The only way I found to fix it was hillbilly as hell. Start the rig and start pounding the dash above the HU. Ya gotta hit it for about 30seconds while the HU cycles through all the CD's. After this it will work and you can eject them all. I pounded on the dash for about 3 months before I said enough is enough and got a replacement.
to be honest, this was the first thing to go wrong with the radio. but like you said it was about 30 seconds worth of pounding, then it reconized #2 & 3. but i acted like i was going to load the others and it said load complete and i was able to eject them. thanks for the help.

No problem. Unless you want to keep doing this I would find another HU. I see quite a few of them on CL around here from $50-100. I never bothered to find out what the problem was, just swapped them out.
i guess i will have to start looking now. i'm just glad that i didn't loose six cd's. how much of a hassle is it to swap them out, i have done plenty in the past, but you know some can be a little bit more difficult than others.
Not that hard. You need to remove the bezel and there will be 4 holes. Rather than buying a tool I cut a coat hanger and used that as a release tool. It's really a plug and play. My rig was an XLT and the HU I got was from a lariat so it had extra plugs in the back for the factory sub. What kind of rig do you have? Some got the wiring harness ran in the truck from the factory with no sub. Check under the driversside rear carpet for the harness if you want. I ended up hooking up a LOC and running my 8" eclipse and it sounded decent.
