help! alignment after ball joint replacement?
just replaced lower ball joints, got a squeal while turning now, do i need an alignment? sounds like its coming from the tie rod, not really sure what else it could be!
What did you remove while changing the joints? As long as you left both control arms bolted tight to the frame, and left the outer tie rod end tight to the inner rod, you shouldnt need an alignment.
Just changing the lower joint wont affect anything, unless the whole control arm got shifted. If this noise is coming from the tie rod, it is possible that the joint was damaged. Does it squeek only while driving, or will it do it when sitting still? I would jack the front tires off the ground, and have someone cycle the steering. As it turns, feel each ball joint and tie rod. Anything making noise should be felt. Also spin each tire by hand and listen.
I once had a noise only while turning, and only while driving. It turns out that i had slightly bent a dust shield near the front caliper on one side. As the truck was driving around corners, the natural roll of the vehicle flexed the front suspension just enough for the shield to rub on the inner lip of the wheel. Was an easy fix, thought i would mention it.
When it comes to noises, they are often impossible to diagnose through these forums. Keep investigating, and post more. We will try to help!

Luckily, most shops will have 2 alignment rates... 1 to check, and 1to check and adjust.
If it has not had an alignment in a while, might be good practice.
Replacing a worn balljoint with a new one will bring your truck back to where it was before it was worn and should not need an alignment.
Some people like spending more money, and thats okay cause tires are expensive.
Doesnt hurt to check
