Default Headers or High Flow Cats?

I have a flowmaster super 44, aftermarket air intake and just ordered the edge evo programmer for my 06 4.6, I was wondering what my next step should be?

If your looking for power I would go with high flow cats. Headers will be pricey for the headers themselves and the install. I am in my 1st F150 now and I am coming from Mustangs, Cobras and Mach 1's so they are a little different than trucks. There isnt a whole lot you can do to an N/A engine and get great power out of it.

Gears.

Unless you have decent gearing stock. Then, headers.

Ordered cats, another question. If im running a programmer do i HAVE to run 93 octane? Or is it possible to run 87 without causing my engine to ping?

If you get a custom dyno tune, the tuner can tune it for 87 or 93 octane no problem.

You can, but with the timing set for 93, you'll very likely ping/detonate.

Run 93 if your program is set up for 93. Run 87 if your program is set up for 87. Try not to deviate from this.

Get an SCT XCal 3 and get 3 custom tunes made by a tuner in your area with a dyno. They could do an 87 octane fuel saver tune, 93 octane performance tune and a 93 tow tune. Make sure you find a good tuner who knows what they are doing.

Edge Evo is programmed so you can run 87 or higher octane. Cats, mufflers, CAI...none of them will give you more performance you can feel so I hope you won't be disappointed. I personally think hi flow cats are a waste of money. Headers would give you the most power but are pricey and a bitch to install. We drive trucks, not Mustangs, so any performance mod besides FI is not really noticeable on something that weighs 6500lbs.
