Question Headers for 4.2l

Hello,

I have a 2005 f150 STX v6 and wanted to know if there are any aftermarket headres that can be bought? Or can I use headers from a 2004? Some places sat they have them but when I get to customer service they say they do not. I noticed that the manifolds for a 2004 and 2005 have the same part number on some websites. So if I boght headers for a 2004 would I be able to use them on my 2005? Thank you for your time.

I don't think I've seen any headers, but remember that there were two body styles in 04, yours and the heritage.

Check with Clifford Performance in CA. They specialize in 6 cylinder vehicle performance.

Not the answer you're looking for, but:

Can I ask why you're looking to buy headers for a 4.2L V6? I don't think you will see the same gains that the larger motors gain with headers. I don't mean to knock the 4.2L, as Bucko has pointed out, it is a very reliable and sturdy engine. That said, a V6 is a V6 and headers will not make it equal to a V8.

I would tell you to take your $500 and go buy a nice stereo, because I think you will get more use out of it. If you already have a nice stereo and are looking for more performance then I might suggest looking to see how much a truck like yours with a V8 is (05 STX 4.6L). The 4.6L is a solid motor with much larger market for performance parts. I don't know what the price difference would be to trade trucks, local prices will vary. There are thousands of these trucks out there, so you should be able to take your pick. The mods you have on your current truck should transfer no problem.

I'm guessing you're somewhere 16-21 years old, right? Not that long ago I was a broke college kid with a '95 f150 with the 4.9L straight 6. Very solid motor, but not nearly the aftermarket parts like the 5.0's and 351's. Its the same thing.

So i would say buy some other mod, trade trucks, or wait a couple years and buy the truck you really want.

oooooooooooooooooooo, you and your common sense!

There are a couple guys out there who put superchargers and headers on their 4.9 I-6s! Enough $$ can do anything (except plug an oil well).
