Default Hard To Start When Cold

When the temperature drops below freezing it becomes harder to start, and the colder it is the harder it becomes. Typically I have to cycle the key on and off 3-4 times then crank it and it starts, I may have to repeat this a few times more depending on how cold it is. The truck runs completely normal once I've done this. My engine light is coming on when it gets cold as well, and goes off when it is around or warmer than freezing. Does anyone have any ideas?

What year truck? And how old is the battery? Sounds like a classic battery problem. The cold weather takes a toll on them.

Change to 5W30 oil, get a new battery of 1000cca, tune up motor, change pcv, run a OBD II diagnostic and I/M test. Instal a block heater, instal a oil sump heater, put a couple cans of Isoporpyl alcohol in gas tank. Store in heated garage.

'07 F150 I had the dealership run a diagnostics on it and they're saying its the powertrain control module....$1100 touch. I'll try battery first and see how it responds, although it still wouldn't explain the engine light coming on and off.

Eeek. If you do change the battery make sure its a motorcraft. They respond the best. Try looking at a salvage yard for a pcm.... It'll be a lot cheaper-

Check out http://goecm.com puter list at $195 + $50 core deposit charge. You really need to run your own OBD II code and I/M tests. This sounds fishy to me.

My check engine light came on when my battery was slowly dying. Thought it was something else, changed battery (went interstate MegaTron) and its been gold ever since.

I put a new battery in it.....880....and its starting much easier now. I'm still having to cycle the key 3-4 times before starting.
