Default Grinding noise

I just noticed\heard ,, the World famous grinding noise today on the right side front axle . and the driver side is lock with the half shaft . hopefully not the IWE .or my plan this weekend will not be fun . Towing my snow mobile with a little Ranger

I just got a grinding noise also checkin it out this weekend.... Grinds when turning the wheel Mines not a 4X4 tho

tested everything with a hand held Vacuum pump . its all good . but driver side actuator .is lock up with the half shaft . is there any here a trick to unlock it with out . removing Everything ?

It should unlock with vacuum (7" minimum) applied to the IWE large nipple. If it doesn't the IWE has failed and needs to be replace. None of the internal parts are serviceable.

Yours would most likely be wheel bearings, which means you should not drive the truck at all until you can confirm that they are good. A failed wheel bearing will heat up and can damage other parts, including resulting in wheel separation from the truck at speed.

yeah...if the vacuum pump did not disengage your hub...everything is not good...like VTX said you may need a new IWE

Wait i have had this happen 3 times all in the summer with the air conditioning on, I pulled over and it stopped is this the same thing have not had it happen in months

Same to me but more of a rattle for the drivers side did it for about 2mins then I pulled over and looked everything was good I kept going and so did it I pulled over I a empty parking lot shut it off and looked again and nothing. Any ideas?

Ive replaced my IWE's twice already, once on pass side and twice on the drivers side. im pretty sure fords IWE's are poop.. I tried a Dorman part from my work, if it goes bad atleast I have a warranty on it! good luck friend there not hard to do, if you have any ?'s PM ME
