Default Good exhaust setup??

I have an 07 FX4 5.4, Im gonna get rid of the stock exhaust and go with a single 3" cat-back magnaflow 18" or 14" dumped right after the oulet. my questions are what do guys think I should go for the 18" or 14", Im looking for a really "deep" tone not so much "loud". My other question is should I swap the OEM Y-pipe to a magnaflow 2 1/2 inlet-3 oulet for a bit less restriction or I should I just keep the stock one??? Overall what do you guys think bout this setup, yay or ney? Any suggestions are welcome
THANKS IN ADVANCED

Welcome aboard. The first item you will want to become familiar with is the search tool. Your question on exhaust is a popular one; comes up at least twice a month here. Search this forum on "exhaust", and you'll find dozens of threads for you to read. You can then decide from all the input on what's best for you.

Exhaust, cold air intake (CAI), oil, oil filters, removing spark plugs from mid year 5.4's, HID's, and LED's are all subjects that get asked here often (very often).

The search can really help you out.

Again, welcome to the forum!

I researched this topic pretty heavily....and have yet to do it, but am going with the banks monster exhaust. Due to conflicting stories about magnaflow/flowmaster, I was between banks and rousch

Pick a shop that will let you listen to the difference before welding.

I had the 18" Magnaflow put on mine - sounded best in my opinion - don't know about any other pipe mods, none were done for mine other than going side out in front of the rear wheel.

The shop that put it on stuck the shorter 14" and the 18" and another brand muffler on before fully welding to allow me to listen to the different tones.

I recently had a Flowmaster 40 series installed on my 2004 Screw, 4.6l.
(1 in and 2 out the back). It is entirely too loud inside the cab-can you say drone? I just ordered a Flowmaster 50 series Suv muffler that I hope is better.

forgot another bonus of the banks, is that you can install yourself without welding.

most kits can be installed with out being welded, not just banks. Flowmaster, Magna, banks, edelbrock can all be installed without welding, its just not the best way to do it.
