Default Gears

Hey guys,

I'm really thinking about doing gears in my truck. Number one when I did my bearings I found quite a bit of debris, bits of gear teeth, etc. and number 2 I want to unlock some of the low end on my truck again. Right now I have 3.55 in my Ford 8.8 in front and rear. I was thinking about upgrading my limited slip while I was in there too. My truck came stock with 255/70/17's and I am currently running 295/70/17's. I was thinking of going with 4.11. I think that would be a nice upgrade and make up for the larger tires. I believe I'll leave this job to the professionals because I have the lack of time, and I don't want to risk me messing something up with something this expensive on my daily driver. Here is what I am thinking of going with...

http://www.amazon.com/High-performan...=IKLMWPIXAA1I0 http://www.amazon.com/High-performan...=IKLMWPIXAA1I0

Amazon.com: High performance Yukon Ring & Pinion gear set for Ford 8.8 Amazon.com: High performance Yukon Ring & Pinion gear set for Ford 8.8" Reverse rotation in a 4.11 ratio: Automotive

Amazon.com: Detroit Locker 913A561 Trutrac Differential with 31 Spline for Ford 8.8 Amazon.com: Detroit Locker 913A561 Trutrac Differential with 31 Spline for Ford 8.8": Automotive

Since I am fairly new to the gear world, as far as picking a setup for my truck, I was wondering if I could have some of y'alls input. Will all this work together? I know I would need a new instal kit and I plan on keeping the stock axle shafts. But I was thinking of ordering this stuff and taking it to whoever I get to do the instal and let them get the rest. Any brands that would be better over another? Thanks for all the help!

not sure about how or anything, but i have read up on this also because im considering getting 35's and 4.11 seems to be a popular choice as well as 4.56. Just wanted to throw that out there, and good luck

I don't have access at work to all the links you posted, but 4.10s will be great with the 33s. You will have a lot of low end torque. I had 4.56 and 315/70/17 and it was torquey, which would be similar to 4.10 and 33s. Only downside is highway rpms if you do much traveling above 70. I had a local small shop get Yukon gears and do the install for 940 which is really cheap. I didn't get new master install kits as the truck only had 60k miles when I did it. You will need a programmer to make it all mesh together if you don't yet have one. Shifting will be out of whack without one.

It will be a fairly pricey endeavor then. You plan on keeping the truck a lot longer? If so the gears may be worth it but it will probably be around 2000. That's a good down payment if you don't plan to keep it a lot longer.

I don't plan on selling this truck ever. It's been paid off a while. It will become my toy. I probably will buy a new explorer next and drive the truck on the weekends. I know I'll rebuild the engine at some point and maybe throw some forced induction on it. I know this truck pretty well and I like the work on it. I figured around 2 grand. Just want to build it into what I want instead of trying to buy it from a dealer.

Cool. Just don want you to do what I did and drop the money on gears and then get rid of the truck. I downsized payment wise as I have a commuter so I sold the f150 and picked up an 01 f250 powerstroke.
