Default Gauge swap. Adding features and dome light problems

So I finally found a deal on a used cluster to replace mine. Everything works now on the gauges but my dome light doesn't come on with the doors or switch. I haven't taken the truck in to get the mileage reprogrammed yet, is the dome light something that needs programmed too? My other question is the donor truck has temperature and compass displayed on the odometer screen. Can those be added? Just curious

The biggest issue you will face is if your truck has manual or auto climate control. Those cannot be swapped (it has been done, but there is a lot that goes into it)

If you got a cluster out of an XLT or an FX4 (must be from a truck that had manual ac) then yes, once you get the dealer to add the as built data, your lights will work again. The temp should also work as all trucks have the sensor.

I've done a gauge swap and the external temperature doesn't read on my XL. I did swap the factory one with one from a lariat and I know that causes some issues like My AC not working, but should I be able to see external temp?

No. What works and what does not work with just a cluster swap (and no reprogramming) has been discussed in length on a thread started awhile ago on this site. Search "cluster swap" on this forum, and you'll find it.

Did you go to a ford dealer and have them add the "as built data" from your old cluster to the new one?

Actually yes I did, and no it doesn't work. It has nothing to do with as built data, but how it communicates to your PCM.
Did you?

Nope. I just decided to deal with having no lights when entering the truck, no chimes etc.

Sucks only because I didn't get a new cluster cause I wanted one, I broke my original cluster due to my curiosity. Ha!
