Gauge Cluster Issue/Compass Issue:
I've posted several times about my compass on my 08 FX4 having a mind of it's own and always saying "CAL" even after recalibrating it, or once calibrated it shows E as W and W as E, but N and S are okay. I never found any info out, but after a 1,200 mile road trip I can't stand it anymore. If it was in the mirror I wouldn't care, but since it's right above the odometer it drives me nuts when I see a flash and then loose my outside temp/compass to "CAL". When I pull into a parking lot people must think that guy in that grey F150 is NUTS for making circles lol.
Anyways I went to a dealership today to see if there was a sensor I could replace, but apparently they're saying to fix a stupid "CAL" compass that I will have to spend over $600.00 for a new gauge cluster, reprogramming, and install. The rest of my cluster works perfectly and I have no weird gauges, lights, or other faults.
Does this sound like a dealership that's trying to take me for a ride?? Anyone else ever have any issues with their 04-08 compass in the gauge cluster???

Unfortunately, the dealer is correct. You can look for a good used cluster, then have the mileage flashed as an option, but it's used. I've seen FX clusters on ebay for as little as $100.00 now. The "craze" for FX clusters have settled, and the prices now reflect it.
Or pay new.

All that for a compass? What a waste........ guess I will either look into a used FX4 cluster, or a STX cluster without the lame compass. I've seen several Larait cluster's on Ebay, but I don't think those will work on an FX4.
