Default Gas cap rusting out!!!

I live in NNY and the salt is so harsh on vehicles up here. The paint around my gas cap is starting to chip off and its the first sign of rust I have on my black 2006 fx4. Is there something I can do to touch it up without taking it to the body shop. Maybe a black gas cap cover? Just want to try and clean it up before it gets worse.

Sand it down, then apply etching primer, then tape off around it and spray with bedliner. Or bite the bullet and have it done correctly at a body shop.

Is it visible with the door shut?

Especial (I'm pretty sure that's his name) had a good write up a few weeks ago about fixing this but it is only valid if the rust is under the gas door and not visible when closed. If it is visible with the door closed, I guess you need to look at an aftermarket cap but I don't actually know if they cover over the body at all... Might get costly for you...

yeah its visible with the door shut, rusting along the bottom edge, not running bad, but the paint is chipping off. I just bought the truck last April so i'm sure the dealer probably had it touched up but it couldn't handle all the salt and gas.
