Angry Fuel Module

New here and a long time Ford F-series owner. Just recieved diagnosis from dealership on my 2007 F-150, the fuel module strategically located on the frame beside the spare tire in order to collect all road residue including ROAD SALT, is done. After approximately 5 hours on the phone with dealerships and Ford of Canada I have decided that this may in fact be my last F-series. When I bought my first used Ford truck in 1988 I expected little from a 10 year old vehicle and had great use and since then 6 F-150's later it is over. Ford will not stand up and admit that the fuel module is an issue, which I now know it is after talking to 3 dealerships and this IS a common problem, I am now looking "off-shore". This is not a safety concern so they can sweep it under the table. Anyone who owns an F-150 with the module on the frame rail I suggest you coat it in gease, it is an issue! Unless you have $400-$500 to throw out the window for a problem that should have been rectified years ago.

400-500?

You need some tools. That module is literally two bolts, unclip the harness, and do the reverse to re-install.

Buy the part, do it yourself. BTW, the new modules are better than the stock ones...so you shouldn't have this problem after this.

Is this only for the 5.4L or the 4.6L also? Is it located in the same place on both and is it the same on all model F150's (STX, FX, SCREW, SCAB, etc.)?

Same place. Take off the spare tire and you can find it easy. I've been meaning to replace mine as a preventative measure since my trucks first owner was in Michigan/salt country.

What is this called, besides a fuel module? I looked for it on Rockauto and could not find. Is it the fuel tank sending unit? Does the 4.6L use the same part # as the 5.4L?

Fuel Pump Control Module.

The part itself is about $90 from Ford.

Check on-line dealer prices. My dealer will match any on-line prices I find to keep my business...

Labor is free if you have "regular" tools.

I have a 2002 F150 with a "dealer installed" off road pkg and I swear the module is not wear everyone say it is. I spent a day looking for the module. Could they have moved it to a different location?
