I have a 2004 F-150 screw 4x4 with a broken coil on my driver's side strut and will be replacing them both.

My question is, what is the difference between 04-08 struts and 09-13 ? Can you install 09+ struts on an 04 ? I have an amazing deal on a pair of Rancho quick lift struts but they are for an 09+.

The 2009-2013 will not work. 2004-2008 has an eyelet (for a lack of better desceription) on the bottom of the shock. 2009 -2013 has two bolts on the bottom of the shock.

 

I thought the 14+ had the flat bar at the bottom with the 2 bolts ? I know the main design difference from 08 to 09 is the f150 had a lower control arm redesign mostly from aluminum to steel. I'm not sure if it changed the geometry of the suspension inturn would change the strut design ?

 

Maybe I'm wrong then. I thought the change started in 2009.

 

Here is a pic of the actual struts I'm looking into.. they fit 09-14. Visually there is no difference to the eye when I compare to my struts on the 04 ?

 

There is a difference in the extended length, compressed length, and travel length between the 2004-2008 & 2009-2013.

2009-2013 specs

• Compressed Length: 17.13
• Extended Length: 21.6
• Travel Length: 4.47
• Body Type: SS2

2004-2008 specs

• Compressed Length: 17.19
• Extended Length: 22.21
• Travel Length: 5.02
• Body Type: SS3

The differences don't seem like much, I'm definitely not an engineer but to me it doesn't seem like such a difference that you couldn't install them on the 04, if anything it would possibly lift it a half inch, maybe lol.
