I've put Duralast lifetime ceramic pads ($ 60 )on mine and no dust problem, and the brakes seem to have a better feel

2005 STX with chrome inserts over steel, and I only wax them when I rotate the wheels which is every 5,000 miles

Hope this helps

okay first of all you could go with ceramic pads.... they are better performance wise than regular pads...BUT they are also known for wearing rotors a SMALL amount of time faster than reg pads... but the dust and performance is well worth it..... secondly if you have nice wheels i would recommend dust sheilds... you get them and put them on before you put the wheel on and the keep dust from working its way to the wheel... car quest, auto zone and even advance carries them... there are protectants you can use, some work and some dont but the best thing is not having dust come near them.... i have posted a thread along time ago also that stated several people used the dust sheilds and have had no problems with rotor warpage... hope this helps

I had them on my my wife's old Accord and it had warped rotors within 15k miles of mostly city driving.
From working in dealerships and seeing them reletively frequently, I know that they do in fact warp rotors because as a service advisor, I had to call most of the owners with brake pulsations and sell rotor replacement (Volvo wont permit dealers to turn rotors due to safety reasons).

it just doesnt sound right that a volvo owner would actually put dust shields on a car. Did they come stock on the vehicle.

I had alwasy heard that dust shields did help warp rotors even when i was in the auto parts business but I also had heard that some of the new ones were made in a way that helped prevent that... but I have not tried them myself.... as far as wax goes... most waxes even the best ones will not stop hot brake dust... however I do agree that it does help..

Seems odd we can put a man on the moon but cant keep brake dust off of our wheels...Ö¿Ö

No, they are not stock. Volvo ('99 +) puts off as much brake dust in one day as our trucks put off in one week!! They are horrible for that. The brakes themselves are awesome performance wise but I hated owning one due to the fact that LITTERALLY by the end of the day after washing and then driving, they were black again.

For anyone who wants proof that the alleged chrome wheels are in fact chromed plastic over the steel wheels...I present to you....the smoking gun:

Look closely....the wheel cover is a slightly different size than the streel wheel....so you can see the plastic piece. Also, notice the seventh hole near the lug nut holes, which (I think) is how the cover is clipped on....

I HATE THESE WHEELS. They are so hard to clean. In fact...I have found it literally impossible to clean them back to factory new look. All of my other cars I own have no issue with keeping the entire wheel clean. I am pretty **** about cleaning the wheels. But this one takes the cake!

I am looking for new OEM wheels now.
