Did you pull the head with cam / lifters / followers in place? or have you inspected the lifters/followers for any anomalies? What about the Phaser? Removed, or notice ANY slop in gear/internals when forced against valve spring resistance?
If the internal spring loaded locking pin has ANY slack in it, it'll knock like heck.

Pulled the exhaust manifold off and found the gasket on first cylinder blown out and the gasket on the 4th cylinder in very bad shape. could be the ticking sound but dont think it would cause the screeching...

for clarification the screeching was caused by gasket leak?

Just to inform everybody.. The head and exhaust manifold on both sides come off together and with no issues. Remove the 2 bolts from the exhaust pipe and head bolts and your out. Hardest part of the job was removing the exhaust bolts but not to bad with a little heat. No need to disconnect the A/C. They both go back in also with no issues. Much easier to remove the manifold out of the truck. Also much easier to install it too. I removed both heads cleaned them and removed all the valves. Lapped all the valves to a nice smooth finish and reinstalled with new head gaskets. Checked and cleaned oil system from the oil pan onward. Pistons were all perfect and moved smoothly.
