fog/Hi beam problem
Those are irrelevant for models older than 2009.
A 2006 F150 doesn't have a GEM module.
It would have to be done according to plan, not an accidental half-measure. As it is, if he actually NEEDS fogs for severe visibility conditions like fog, he's going to get high beams which impair visibility.
OP: Is your truck equipped with either autolamps or daytime running lights?
I thought GEMs get wonky with LEDs lacking resistors…something of that sort.
You need to do the Bambi mod.

I'll guarantee you it has nothing to do with the CAN bus (since the CAN bus has nothing to do with the head or fog lights). More likely than not, you simply ended up with an extra load resistor that was called whatever. It is the extra load caused by the resistor in parallel with the LED that mimics the draw of the incandescent bulb which then allows the original fog light relay control circuit to function as it was designed to do with regular bulbs.
