Default Fan on at take off

I have a 06 screw 5.4L that when I take off from a stop the engine fan is on. It goes away in a short time but returns at every stop. Is anyone else seeing this or might I have a problem??
I thought about going to an electric fan set up. Has anyone done this and what is the best setup/brand to use??

Thanks guys/gals

An electric fan would save you in the power dept. Just have to make sure its a quality one and not like a Vato Zone special. Also make sure to get one that is thermostat controlled, not user controlled, Its too easy to forget to turn it on.

I haven't done it yet on my F-150, but did it on my 95, Chevy C1500.

Loved it for the power and throttle response, but more than anything it made it so much easier to do minor repairs and belt changes.

Can I assume that the 4.6 and 5.4 stock fans are centrifugal operation? My 4.2 is. This means the fan is doing as it is upposed to be doing as 6.0stroker describes; as engine speed increases, the fan stops spinning, as the vehicle is assumed to be moving forward, and air is passing through the front grille to cool the radiator. When the engine RPM slows, the fan clutch engages, to draw air through the radiator.

Most cars today use electric fans operated from a thermostat. I'm suprised our trucks are not this way. The clutch type fans do draw a few HP off of the engine per sie, but usually not a noticable amount to justify a $200.00 electric fan kit IMO.
