Fading Plastics
Hey guys,
Any recommendations on a product to return the black to the exterior plastics. Around the top of the bed and the base of the windshield wipers it has just faded so much. I've got the 2004 5.4 xlt. Thanks

I pulled mine off and painted with krylon fusion and it looks brand new. I have tried most all of the gels and sprays and they lasted a few days and you have to do it every time you wash our truck. It was well worth it to just paint it and be done.

Makes it look 100% better and doesn't leave you wasting time on all that back to black stuff.

Try Bondo black restore. I've tried the rest and this last very long. It really does make the plastic look brand new. You can get a coupon code for advance auto and get it on sale for around $7. I use a foam paint brush to apply it. Again, it last and looks great. All the other black restore products wash off as soon as it rains and/or raids in a short time.

Thanks guys, Ill try the bondo for starters and if it doesn't hold up I will surely get the Krylon. I just don't have the time/workspace to pull off all the plastics and paint them.

If you do pull of the piece where the wipers are be very careful with the end pieces. They break really easy. I just pulled mine off and ordered new ones, but if you don't want to spend the 20$ then be warned haha

Pulling them off and painting them is the best. But if you don't want to do that, there is a dye made by Flynns auto detail. You can only buy it online or at shows, its $30 but ive done my truck, rub rail on my boat and still have 75% left. I actually just did a write up on it, got really no response on the forum. But this stuff has not showed one sign of fading or coming off in 2 months and been washed multiple times and a dozen or so rains.

you do not have to remove the hood at all.
I purchased trim paint from oreilly auto parts and it has held up great for a year now. I painted the fender flares and hood cowl. I havent dont the bed yet though. I put a few coats on of the black and also a few coats of the clear coat.
