Default factory cruise control

Has anyone installed a factory cruise control? I've read a few contradicting threads on this. On one, a guy just replaced the steering wheel to one equipped with the controls. Then had Ford enter the code to activate it. Is it as simple as that?

No you have to have the amplifire and the servo to make it work, but your truck is presided for it.

Servo? Our trucks are drive by wire setups. I believe the first post is correct. Install a steering wheel with the switches, then have a dealer enable the PCM for it (cruise).

What models do not have cruise? Just the XL's?

All you need is a steering wheel with the cruise control buttons and a reprogram by your dealer. I did it on my Focus, another pro is that the radio controls on the steering wheel will work.

Three different steering wheels used on the F150's for '04 to '08....one with no controls, one with cruise control only, and one with cruise control and radio control.

How much would one of these cost? I have cruise but would like the radio controls. Also want to go from tan to black.

Check Ebay and your local salvage yards. If you need a particular color, I'd go to the salvage yard. If they don't have it, they can get on their parts locator network and find one for you.

They're expensive. I think mine was close to 400 retail but I got a deal on it. If you don't get the one with the radio controls then you won't have that feature... I'm sure the price difference between the two isn't much though. I'm not sure what your dealer would charge you to reprogram. Probably 100 bucks or less.

Well like bucko said if you can find one at a junk yard it'd be a lot cheaper. i got mine from a dealer that had it on their shelf for a couple years and wanted it gone so it was for sale for 50% below cost. $85 plus I reprogrammed it myself after work one day was a good deal.

I looked around and it looks like you can get just the switches for the cruise control switches on ebay for under $100 plus the cost of reprogramming, you can probably get it for $200. Before I put it in my focus i wasn't paying attention to my speed in the mountains in western MD and got a $250 ticket and 2 points on my license so the $200 would totally be worth it to prevent that.
