Default F150 mpg

I've noticed a lot of MPG threads lately and noticed that a lot of members have different mileage. I've seen people getting anywhere from 9-11 to close to 16-18. Why is there such a difference? Difference in maintenance and mileage? New vs old plugs? Any insight on this would be nice. I currently get anywhere from 10-12 at the moment, but winter has arrived so the temp has dropped quite a bit.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have an 05 with the 5.4. Stock tires, exhaust and an leveling kit and 10-11 seems to be the best I can get. Ive seen other members with a level getting better mpg than I do. I am not stomping on the gas either.

I wonder how much of it has to do with maintenence, ive never cleaned my TB yet but my plugs are new, fresh fluids all throughout and im getting 14 city with big ol Trail Grapplers. For me atleast, if i let it get up to 2500 RPMs even once on the tank i seem to average 12ish. So idk how much is maintenence or driving habbits.

I do my oil on a regular basis, cleaned the TB out and didn't really notice much of a difference. I'm currently at 87xxx miles and still haven't gotten the plugs changed. Bought it used so I'm gonna see what maintenance was done before I got it.

There are a myriad of things that affect mpg's, but two I feel having the greatest impact are the O2 sensor and rpm's. Change the O2 sensor every 2 years and keep the rpm's below 2K.

Clean air filter and throttle body. Get to cruising speed rapidly without doing burn-outs. Feather the throttle when at cruise speeds, coast to stops. When on the highway keep speeds less than 65 (drag causes severe mpg penalties above that). You can expect up to 20 mpg (maybe) highway and as bad as 8-9 mpg in city traffic. It won't get any better than that.

I easily see 19 to 21 highway but i do 65 maybe 68. And i keep up on the truck like crazy. Everything is high quality synthetic no lift or bigger tires. All filters on a regular maintenance cycle.

Its just the way I am with my vehicles. I can always excede the window stickers estimated mpgs and I hand calculate. I dont own fancy cars that tell me what they are getting.
