I have the keyless keypad code for the truck - We're just wanting another key as a spare. Will the "chipped" key from Walmart work for unlocking and starting?

Neither my stock key nor my chipped key from Walmart will unlock the door, however they will both start the truck. I have to use the keyless fob or the door code to unlock the truck. They both work for locking/unlocking the tailgate though.

Can the keyless FOB be purchased separately for a decent price?

I was in the same situation as I bought my 05 Lariat used and the previous owner only had one key and didn't have the door code. I followed the video already posted on this thread and got my door code. For $70 I went to ACE and they made a chip key that open the door and started the truck with no issues.

Less than $5 for the remote. Not sure how to program it though.

Search on the forum or on Google. Programming the FOB is a piece of cake. Don't remember the exact steps but I did it for my 07 in a few minutes. It involves turning the key on/off multiple times and pushing buttons on the FOB. Definitely buy them on line. The dealer will bend you over big time for them $$$$$.

That video will show you where it is. Call around to a few dealerships first. I was quoted up to $100 to obtain the code, but the fourth place I called did it for free. Of course they then quoted me $250 to swap out my shift ****, but still lol.
That's the same video i used. shouldn't take that long. As mentioned programming the key fob is very simple. I got mine off ebay, but amazon will work fine as well. If you are doing more than one make sure to have them both there when programming, and program both of them or it will "forget" the other one.

I bought a second key at Walmart. They were able to read the chipped key I had then program and cut it. It starts it, works in the door, tailgate, and spare tire lock.

Default Notes on keys

If your key has the fob on the key the YouTube videos to turn the key off and on 8 times doesn't work to program your fob. Havent found any fix for this. Walmart will cut the key for free. I just did it. It Unlocks door(manually) and fits ignition. Not programmed yet. I got a $18 USB adapter and free forscan software to enable my remote start and hopefully program the key. Which is why I'm on this forum looking for those that have done this.
