Default Exhaust with or without muffler.

I just put on a magnaflow 14" round muffler si/so and I thought it would be a lot louder. I really like the way it sounds but I want it a little louder. What could I do to make it louder but not cackle? I thought about running just the cat and no muffler, are there any problems with that?

Yes, it sounds like crap.

crackle is the sound you get when your hearing the raw motor sounds. I like that sound, but I dont like that sound without a muffler. Put an off-road midpipe on and you will get your sound increase that you want.

Your going to need to change your muffler. Get magnapacks or a more aggressive straight through muffler. Magnaflows are very tame.

Dont be afraid to take off the cats though, you wont hurt anyone. You can turn off the CEL with a tuner.

Now this is an example of a good post.
I actually am happy with the no muffler except it's just a tad too loud for my tastes. At least in the cab it is. I'm trying to figure out exactly what I want to do. Not sure yet.
Thanks.

If you want it louder, run the end pipes into your cab. Then you would have all the noise and I could hear my radio.

No one but yourself and the law. It's against FEDERAL law (over rules any state law) to remove or tamper with the cats. You cannot legally trade or sell the truck this way. No dealership can take the truck on trade to sell it unless they install the cats. If you sell it privately, the buyer can sue you. This happened to a fellow worker of mine. He bought a used vehicle in Texas. When he took it in for the required yearly Texas inspection, they failed it due to no cats. He had the vehicle for 4 months. He sued and won his case in small claims court. Not only did the seller have to pay for re-installation of new cats, but the seller got slapped with a $5000.00 fine.

Think twice before removing and tossing the cats. Not worth it for a bunch of noise, and you don't gain any signifficant HP/TQ increases either.
