Default Exhaust/tips

I purchased a 07 xl with the V6 of course and the older man i got it from had a dual exhaust put on. My question is can i cut the tips off and have it hidden under the truck? Not sure what its gaining with a dual exhaust on a V6. Just didn't know how much the sound would change with no tips just pipe.

Yes you can do that, I have it like that on my truck. The exhaust was very rusted and the last guy had huge chrome/rusty tips on it. I ran my Superduty with turn downs right before the rear axle, that is what is next for this truck.

What will that do to the sound of it? Its ok right now but, just don't want it to go to junk after removing them.

Turn downs before the axle will make it louder.

when you say "turn down" does that mean that the exhaust is dumping under the truck or out the side before the tire? I'm asking to clarify because wouldn't the exhaust build up under the frame and body and be harmful while in the vehicle? Or am I just understanding incorrectly? Also what difference would that make on a stock exhaust on the 5.4?

^^^Exactly like that, and the "fumes" are non-existent. I had it like that on my Superduty for 7 years, never a problem. I just did mine today since the pipes from the muffler back had all kinds of holes, sounds amazing, but it does have true duals with 2 turbo mufflers of some sort. PO put on the exhaust, I am fine tuning it....lol

The "dumping" is almost to the rear axle, hardly under the cab, almost 1/2 the length of the bed.

It made it WAAAAAYYYYY louder than it was on my 5.4 Superduty, holy cow its loud now! I took the cheap route to test sound and used 3" flex tubing and some 3" clamps. Love how it sounds, just not sure how the wife will like it.....lol
