Yeah tell me about it. I do 95% of my own maintenance and repairs on my vehicles, but this one, I just didn't have the time or patience to deal with. It sucked, like I said, I even went to the dealer with my set of shorty drill bits and easy outs...they had the motor jacked and everything. I took one look in and of course it was the stud behind the shock tower. I turned right around and said good luck, call me when it's done.

That's one of the studs that broke on mine, the reason for the leak in the first place. It was the front lower stud and was broken below the surface of the head. It literally took me hours to get it out but I got it out without having to pull the motor. Thankfully my line of work is tool and die so extracting broken studs/ bolts is something I do often. That damn shock tower really made it suck though.

Perhaps because none of your studs needed to be extracted helped immensely but that is usually not the case, I had to extract three broken studs. Also, your arms and hands must be tiny because there was no possible way that I could have done that swap without removing the starter. Come to think of it, even with the engine raised up there was no way the manifold was going been come out of the engine compartment with the starter in place.
There is a reason why shops around here charge almost $1000 to do this job, it's not easy.
I will say, My hands are not very large. But I did have two studs broke on passanger side. And the old manifold did come out without having to remove starter. I honestly don't know how it did. I had to work with it a little while. The lower studs that where broke, where broke flush with block and I believe that helped in removing manifold. After manifold was out, we used a left handed bit and the broken studs came right out, with a little work of course. We remove inner fender liners on both sides and jacked motor higher than should be jacked. I actually removed throttle body cover to let it go higher, stetching hoses as tight as could be.

Thumbs up $700

Sorry y'all, I meant to provide an update sooner… I got my passenger side fixed it cost just over $700 including taxes at a local shop, luckily no broken studs. Truck runs great again and it's not slowly poisoning everyone in it anymore.
