Default Exhaust Manifold Leak

Like many others I'm sure, my right side manifold is leaking on my 2006 5.4L SCrew FX4. I think only one stud is broken. Has anyone had their manifolds replaced on these trucks? I'm trying to get an idea what this will cost. I'm assuming its expensive considering the frame rail and strut tower cross directly in front of the manifolds. I have a 3" body lift, so access may me a bit easier than others. Thanks

Tear into it yourself. Easier than what you think. I replaced both of mine. Had 1 stud broke on drivers side 2 on passanger side. Hardest part was getting some of the nuts off on passanger side. Borrowed some nut easyouts from a local shop and was done in less than 6 hours, ( guessing on hours). Left handed drill bits are your friend. I had less than $300 in whole thing. Good luck.

I'm confused now... is your truck a 5.4L? What year? I can not even see, let alone touch, all of the studs on my manifold. As I said before... the frame rail and the strut tower are in the way. I don't know if it's possible to get a socket on all the studs. I have actually heard of this issue before from others where the motor and transmission actually needed to jacked up 3" or so to gain access to manifold.

took mine to the dealership 650.00 to install new manifold and studs. thought about doing it myself but figured it was worth the money to avoid the aggrevation. I stopped in while they were working on it they had the inner wheel well out, the starter out, the sway bar dropped and the engine jacked up.

Great info. Thanks. Was that for both sides, or only one? How long ago? I figured engine would need jacking

Can anyone else confirm the need to jack engine up for this fix?

I just got done reading this thread about my exhaust leak, 2007 5.4L. https://www.f150forum.com/members/kozal01-21925/. I re-read my extended warranty and called the dealership and it is covered and in the shop right now. I bought the truck in July. I don't know the cost of this job. I was preparing to do it myself too.
Sorry, can't seem to find how to post actual link.

Ext warranties are awesome when they actually cover what's broken. Wish I had one right now

I just got my '08 5.4L back from a regular service at my local ford dealership. They have just quoted me $1050+tax to replace the broken right exhaust manifold (plus any additional cost of replacing broken studs). Called into a local auto repair place and they've estimated $650-700 for the same job. Apparently the labour estimate for the right manifold is twice that of the left on the 4x4 models (I'm guessing because of all the bits that have to be removed to get to it). Right now I don't have the tools or the space to do this myself unfortunately. So. I'll have to pay to get this done. Risk of not doing it at all is that the leaking fumes find their way into the cab through the air vents that are sucking in air from the engine compartment.

As much as I hate whining about how much my truck costs me, I seem to do it more and more as it gets older (or as I get older) :-(

Had my left side done at dealership along with 2 new coils for $850. Had right side done 5 years ago. Both were "warped". Not sure how that happens.
