Default exhaust help please!

So I got a new exhaust on this last fall, and the exhaust shop totally screwed me. They put on 2 inch pipes instead 2.5 and did a crappy job. I had them do true duals with 18 inch glasspacks then 45d out each side with tips. Its not near loud enough and I wanna get it redone. I've heard of of people putting 4 inch diesel exhaust on. Kinda sounds cool to do. But also is it gonna be louder and throatier without glasspacks or any muffler? Thanks for help.

You won't fit anything bigger than 2 1/2 without removing spare tire if your going out the back. That's what I have and it is plenty. I know you can't go too big or you might have problems because you still need some back pressure.

A four inch single system is too large for a naturally aspirated gas engine. 3" would be the max for singles and 2.5" for duals. If you want louder, go with two short body Borla, magnapack, or Dynomax bullet mufflers.

Yep, 3 inch max. Anything bigger and you will loose your torque. Less scavenging and backpressure. Would gain top end but everything else would suffer horribly.

Thanks for info! So would you guys have em go 2.5 true duals all the way, was gonna have em go straight out the back, with no mufflers too? And think 4 inch tips will look good?

Unless you're still in high school or dating your cousin, straights don't have the greatest sound. 2.5" pipe with 4" tips will look good. Be sure to put an X or H pipe up front to maintain scavenging.

take the glasspacks off and burn the packing out, i know buddies who have poured oil in the glasspack and then lit it on fire totally cooking all the packing, thus turning it into a straight piece of pipe. but looking like a muffler....then just get a shop to re-do the tailpipes, or whatever piping needs replaced, but keep the glasspacks- burned of course... $.02

Scavenging is the exhausts main job function. In essence the exhaust is not flowing/pushing the exhaust gasses out of your head but also sucking it out due to backpressure. backpressure effects your scavenging.

Ever heard of guys running open headers and melting their valves? Cars need backpressure, unless your in a turbo or supercharged application and tuned to run open exhaust.

I'm so glad you asked. Read this little intro to exhaust operation and how it works:
