Default Exhaust exit options

So I want a new muffler on my 2007 5.4, super crew fx4. Rather than the stock exhaust exit behind the passenger rear wheel, I wanted something different (not rear exit either). So I was going to go for side exit IN FRONT of the passenger rear wheel. But then, I saw my Brother's Brother in laws 03 super crew 4x4. His exhaust cuts off right after the muffler. There is no piping after the muffler at all (except for 5-6 inches). It is a single entrance and dual exit muffler (looks like a flowmast body but can't say for sure). It sounds badass. Questions I have though. 1. Is it safe for the exhaust to exit like that (just under the bed of the truck). 2. Will I be more prone to getting fumes in the cab? I don't want to expose me nor my family to any unecessary CO.

yes you will be prone to fumes in the cab with it being that close...plus it will get annoying.... plus it wont pass inspection(Well in TX it wont). I have the same single inlet dual outlet flowmaster 40 series and I ran it to my back axle and dumped it directly before the axle. It sounds pretty nice. Its loud but not too loud. Sounds real clean though

IF you attach your flowmaster directley to where you pull your boat anchor (stock muffler) off and immediatley dump it. Yes you will, and no it wont pass a legit emissions test

If you exit the exhaust immediately ahead of the rear wheels, and if you live where there are temperature differentials that result in condensation in the exhaust, all that crap will go all over the side of your truck behind the exhaust outlet.

You don't want to know how I know that.

I've heard of the wheels getting dirty but not the side of the truck! Mine exhausts in front of the rear wheels but havn't had that problem in semi-arid Colorado. I also made sure they installer had the exhaust tips stick out about even with the edge of the tire - along with the angle seems to push the exhaust out enough. I did 2x 3" tips which fit nicely between the chrome tube step bar and the edge of the wheel well.

By 'dumping it directly before the axle', you mean still under the bed of the truck right? Not out the side?

me either and i live in CA. as long as you have a muffler on your truck you will pass any visual inspection passing the actual emissions test is all up to how good your truck is running.
