Default Exhaust

Ok so i have been looking on the forum about the exhaust systems. I am getting different stories about the different exhaust. Some people are saying that flowmaster is the best out there and others are saying that gibson is and others that banks is. I cant decide what i want to get with people sayong that some suck and others dont. So im taking a poll on What exhaust do you have? Do you get any gains out of it? Is it too loud or soft? What year and liter engine is it on? This is how i will make up my mind on what i am getting. Thanks very much.

04 5.4

ive got a si/do flowmaster super 40. i love it, but it could be a little louder for my taste (my gsxr 1000 has a gp pipe and people bitch about it, i think it could be louder too =))

im thinking two high flow cats will help me out.

+1 for super 40s. perhaps you can consider true duals. my grandfather has true duals and they sound even better.

That's the best description for these types of posts I've read in awhile.

Your best bet is to attend some truck shows. Listen to the trucks; ask what they have in the way of exhausts. Then buy.

No one muffler or decent mandral bent exhaust system is going to out perform another by significant HP or torque. It's all up to the tone you're looking for, as they all produce gains in the same range.

Impossible to describe sound on a forum; you'll just need to go out and listen for yourself.

You could always do a little youtube search. People are constantly posting video clips with sound files on their new exhausts. It can give you a little idea of what you might like.

But in my experience, whatever someone bought is the best and they love it. Rarely does someone buy and try out 5 or 6 exhaust systems to compare which is best. I would go with a well known brand. They usually have better fit and last longer.

well Bucko, i've been around the block at least twice and i know every guy has different senses in sound, performance and appearance. Hell back when i was first getting into muscle cars Thrush was the top line of muffler to get for sound. So figure out how long ive been around LOL.I prefer Flowmaster myself. Had 7 or 8 trucks with these installed and have always been pleased. But others like Magnaflow,Gibson and so on. Part of the equation is the proper installation of all the components. You cant just throw a muffler and some pipes together and hope for the best. Had the same person install every system ive had since ive moved to florida in 2000. Works every time. But i'm a little miffed at him. Hes got my wifes 4.6 sounding better then my 5.4. Needless to say, shes happy as hell. Damn Redneck women.

I've had the Flowmaster 40 and 50 series as well as the MagnaFlow...

1- 40 series...too low of a tone..not loud enough for me and I didnt feel any performance.

2- 50 series...louder than the 40 but still no gain from the butt dyno. If this one had the improvement, I would have stuck with it.

3- MagnaFlow...Just loud enough when you get up on the throttle but, tame enough for when you just want the subtle tone cruising down the road. This one had the most butt dyno improvement.

All systems were done by the same shop using 3" single in with single out. Same length and bends on all systems...lost count on the $$$$ when I went over $600.00. I have paid for what I wanted and now I have it.

However, I dont agree with the YouTube statement or listening to clips on the internet...It does give you an idea of what it might sound like, but nothing like what you can attest to in real life sound.

My $.02

plus the sound quality is horrible on some because they practically shove the video camera in the tailpipe
