I have had my Edge EVO for a few years now and have had it on Level 2, towing, with a few minor tweaks. Played with Level 3, power, but where I live Level 2 seemed better for my driving habits. I am going to drive 500 miles this weekend and think I will put it on Level 1, transmission, and see what it does. Does/has anyone used this level and if so what did it do to your gas mileage and power?
I've put several thousand miles on my truck with Level 1 and it seems to have improved my gas mileage a little. In addition I could definitely feel the difference in shifting. The shifts were firmer and at different intervals making it feel like you can get the truck up to speed quicker.
I initially ran Level 1 for a few hundred miles after buying my Edge and it seemed to improve MPG. Then I tried Level 2 with the custom settings that the majority of guys use and my MPG dropped a little. So I decided to go back to Level 1. During this time I have also trained myself how to drive my truck for improved gas mileage. I only ever tow a small boat or trailer and the biggest thing I ever haul is a dirt bike, so I have just left it on Level 1 and I get 16 MPG average. The Edge shows 15-16 in town and 17-18 more open road. I really don't drive highways at all.
I don't know if all this is due to Level 1 or if some is me being more aware of MPG sweet spots by looking at the Edge from time to time. I found that actually being more aggressive down low to get up to speed and then have better throttle control helps.
I drive mine on Level 1 all the time. The only changes I made to it are firmer shifts. It improved the throttle response quite a bit and keeps it from downshifting as much as on the stock tune.
The mileage differences are really dependent on your right foot. It shouldn't be any different than what you've been using unless your driving habits change.
Thanks, that is what I was looking for. What settings did you use to get the firmer shift? Right now on Level 2 I have the following: Edge Custom Settings: Level 2 Shift Firmness: 1-2 & 2-3 = 12 3-4 = 10 Torque Conv. Std. Lock Pts: 3rd = -2 4th = -4 Timing: +1.00 Gears: 3.55 Tire size = 2553
That reminds me that I should go in and change the tire size and gears on Level 1 since I just changed Levels and did not do any custom changes.
I think my shift firmness was set 2 higher than yours on both 1-2/2-3 and 3-4. Also added a little bit to the WOT fuel, but can't remember exactly how much.
Playing around with the settings helps you figure out what you like best.
Drove 500 miles Saturday, different routes and terrain. Went with Level 1, 3.55 gears and tire size 2522 (LT265/R70/17, somebody can check me on that to make sure math is correct) were the only changes to canned settings. Noticed that it shifted much more smoothly and stayed in 4th more consistently on hills instead of downshifting to 3rd, RPMs were more consistent. First leg at 80 MPH, yes Wyoming upped their Interstate speed limit, I got 17 MPG, about 120 miles. Next leg was two lane road, some hills, hot as H, speeds 65 - 70, 22 MPG!!!! Hard to believe, EVO was showing 19+ but manual calculations = 223 miles @ 10 gallons. I like the way it drove in Level 1, did not lose power as far as I could tell.
