Default Evap and Catalyst won't get ready

I did do a search and found some similar issues but here goes. Battery completely died 2 weeks ago so replaced it and of course it failed emissions. Drove the Ford recommended cycles over the past 2 weeks to the tune of 600 plus miles. These 2 monitors will not complete. No cel. Did some minor stuff like oil change, air filter and even gas cap. Im no diagnostic expert but I believe from my torque app that my o2 sensors, fuel trims and all else looks good. My mechanic is at a loss. Even called Ford dealer and they said with no cel that theres nothing they could do. Have asked around and got many suggestions from fuel injector cleaner to guarantee pass emissions products to clearing the monitors with a scanner and start over. Don't even know how to do that because its not a code. What the heck do I do? Im convinced I"ll just have to drive with no current stickers and give the cop a sob story if I get pulled over. Im shocked that any mechanic can't at least run some diagnostics and point me in a direction. I've put a ton of work into this truck and Im not just going to throw money at it. just super frustrated and at a loss. Any suggestions would be great. Kind of sick of this truck

Had the same problem (04 5.4). Took it on the highway, had to put 150 miles on it in one trip and they came on line. You need to keep it at a constant speed, if you don’t they won’t come on line.
Also had the same problem with a work vehicle (14 4.6) and it took over 200 miles.

@Tommy J , sorry for your aggrivating situation. If you're somewhat flexible with Torque Pro, a couple of the dashboards I've put together should help.

First off - stop using the 'TOO EASY' code clearing feature UN-necessarily. It clears not only codes - it also clears some of the tracking information that builds toward OBDII monitor completions. AND sets you up for the code 1000.

EVAP, CATSTAT and CCMSTAT are the three most rigorous and hardest to get completed. Their status' can be monitored with this Torque Pro dashboard: https://www.f150forum.com/f4/how-use...7/#post5992223

EVAP Monitor test will not start, and cancels at intake air temperature below a certain temp (I think like 40 degrees) and above 90 degrees. ALSO above 75% or below 15% fuel tank capacity, AND IF EVAP SOAK is not true (ie: must start after a 6 hour off soak state). You can see all these parameters with the Torque Pro dashboard --- https://www.f150forum.com/f4/how-use...5/#post6188878

CATSTAT Monitor 'can' and 'does' run across multiple drive cycles accumulating Rear-to-Front O2 sensor switch ratios to determine if CAT is operating efficiently. The nature of the beast dictates that heavy acceleration and deceleration will not produce switching that is useful for determining if the CAT is running efficiently. The condition occurs best at normal cruise around 40 - 50 mph when lots of CAM retard is being implemented. Normal operation of O2 switching (after CATS are warmed up) can be monitored with this dashboard. https://www.f150forum.com/f4/torque-...2/#post5624903

COMPREHENSIVE COMPONENTS Monitor - covers a bunch of stuff (all of which IDK), like Break Switch, PS pressure switch operation, and ONE is "Inferred Mass Air" - which calculates the amount of MAS AIR FLOW through the MAF compared to engine displacement to determine if it is ingesting Exhaust gasses as it should when RETARD is commanded. This means for the CCMSTAT to complete, _some_ driving that demands retard must be accomplished.

Hope this helps.

I"ve put over 600 miles including 100 mile plus trips at constant speed. I think I have another issue or something

I actually have the P1000 code and I think have had it for a while. Im positive before the battery swap. Probably just messing around with the torque app here and there and have seen that code and just ignored it. I am a super novice when it comes to torque and diagnostics in general. have some trouble grasping some of the details. have talked to multiple mechanics and nobody knows what to do. My emissions expires tomorrow. I don't even care anymore. i cant keep driving it with fingers crossed after 600 miles of recommended cycles. I think I have something else going on. maybe its my crappy walker cats and the fact that I had bad injector/s. for a few months a while back. Im trying to eliminate things one by one with what Im capable of while being super busy with work which requires me driving the truck. Thanks for your input as usual and I"ll see what I can do.

I think most places you're allowed to have one item show not ready. I'm in Utah and mine passed and I think both of the ones you're worried about weren't quite ready. So maybe your needlessly worried? If you live in California or another strict state, I dunno but the evap readiness as mentioned is a tough one to get to show complete.

Some other things you might check @Tommy J . The attached page from the Motorcraft OBDII theory of operation manual certainly shows us WHY the Evap Monitor is so hard to get completed.

You mention driving 600 miles. Notice it runs ONCE each drive cycle, AND if not completed within 2700 seconds (that's 45 minutes), it aborts. Along with about a hundred other conditions. A number of sensors have to be functioning correctly for it to run You might use Torque to check those items.

It’s aggravating as hell. I had them flunk the emissions test and that gave me three months (Ma). It took me about five months of driving when they finally came back on line and I could get a sticker. I don’t know why Ford can’t do something about this issue?

I actually finally got the catalyst ready this morning by literally using the cruise to drive 5 different speeds for 10 minutes. Its that specific and I thought I was achieving that by city driving.but apparently not. I should pass emissions because Pa allows one monitor not ready. I drove down the jersey shore yesterday to the tune of 200 plus miles with no results. Drive 10 minutes this morning and bang. Thanks for the input
