engine tuner
The Edge Evolution, CS, and CTS are all designed for STOCK trucks and must maintain CARB certification. They are not customized to your calibration/hex code, driving style, objective, octane, towing requirements, city/hwy mix, etc. Bottom line, the Edge canned tunes are still a compromise designed to make 'most' owners happy.
Custom tunes will blow away the canned ones.
I don't dislike the Edge at all. It's a great platform for delivering custom tunes (so is SCT).

I personally recommend the SCT. I had an Edge, and it was nice. The 93 Extreme was a great setting. really juiced up the truck. The towing was good cuz it kept the tranny in check. But after switching to the SCT, I am blown away by it. Not only does it have the canned tunes for 87,91, and 93, but you can add "towing" to any of those options. Edge has a towing tune just for towing. Also, w/ the SCT, I can take my unit to an authorized dealer and get a custom dyno tune, something that can not be done by the Edge. I have never owned a Gryphon, but have always heard great things about the PHP group. Again, these are just my opinions.
