You are where I was three months ago. I had more miles on mine and I put a new engine in and am very happy with my decision.

I had already done the transmission though so that makes a difference. I now have 3k on the engine and 15k on the transmission. Just went through had re-end checked, 4x4 done and new U Joints. . . I wasn't spending 65k on a new truck just not gunna spend that much.

I would do nothing other than the Ford reman. . . I will never put any parts on my truck other than motorcraft unless there are no other choices or they are a cosmetic repair. Drivetrain, motorcraft only. I'm done with crappy knockoff parts labor is too expensive to replace things twice. Well r1concepts brakes seem to be great but....

He started hearing some chain noise, didn't actually recognize it as chain noise and kept driving. In a relatively short time the filings from the inside of the front cover plugged an oil galley and starved one rod journal. Its really a sad situation because the rest of the engine looks extremely good - there was absolutely no reason for it to be replaced but its junk now.

Haven't you got a buddy who likes pulling wrenches? At the stage you're at its probably a low cost "repair and sell" or fix it right and drive it for a long time. You know the rest of the truck so you know whether its worth fixing.

I went with a ford reman, my all in cost eng., New COP's and install was just a shade under $6500.00. The ford will come with new plugs, oil and oil filter, I don't think any of the rest come that way.

Yes that was at a dealership, ford says they will warranty for any shop, but I didn't really trust that.

I had mine done at a “Trusted Mechanic” recommended by a friend of mine. The best I can tell he did a pretty good job. Warranty says any dealer anywhere 3 years 100k warranty. At 3000 miles I am mostly happy with it. I didn’t do two things, I was talked out of it by the mechanic. I wanted to do new COPs, new injectors. Mechanic said it wasn’t necessary they would test and if there were any issues they would replace them. .

I have a slight roughness at idle when cold and now I am wishing I had of had him do those at the same time.

Mine was done 3/2019 and cost $7300 total.

I did find two things, 1. CMCV valve (swirl valve) was not operating properly threw a code. Was told the wiring harness got hung up in it and it is now working properly. . haven’t verified. 2. a mysterious melted vacuum line to my IWE’s . . had to have been done while with the engine swap. Both easily fixed.

I forgot the ford engine also comes with a new front cover, 3 years unlimited mileage warranty. I think Jasper is the same on warranty, but no plugs, oil & filter and you have to either reuse the old cover or buy a new one.
