Default Engine missing, engine light blinks but then goes off

When my engine misses, the engine light starts blinking but then shortly after it goes off... if i take to a dealer will a code be present, or is there only a code if the engine light stays on?

Yea the code will be there. Take it to an auto parts store and have the code read for free rather than the dealer.

Twenty bucks says it will be a P030X error code. (sub any cylinder number with the X) Have it cleared and the next time it happens it will be a different cylinder number. The dealer will tell you its time to change the coil packs and plugs to the tune of about 1200 total. Do yourself a favor and buy the coil packs online for about 300/set or less if you go with aftermarket. Then take to the dealer and let them change the plugs for 300 + 50 for each one THEY break and have to extract. Keep your reciepts and get included in the class action lawsuit that is forming.

I learned all this is 2 days on this site. Pretty cool, huh?

I believe it is located in the spark plug sticky at the top of every page.

I can tell you that a blinking MIL means that there is a mis-fire present- that is certain. If the light continues to flash you should stop and shut the engine off otherwise you will do damage. Could be coil, wires, plugs, or all.

i checked the code last night... it was a misfire cylinder number 4... which is what i suspected, when I changed coils after a shop did the plugs I found that the number 4 coil boot wasn't replaced, which to me means the shop probably did 7 spark plugs and didnt do the #4 plug because of its location and thought that i'd never notice. I will be calling and raising hell today!
