alright im sure you pulled the fuse on that so the wires aint hot. have you checked the charge of the battery at all

Battery has full charge.

I would try the connections to the new alt also. Sounds like your starter is going out though. It might have just randomly started to work during the jump. Sometimes they will go in and out like that. Get a volt meter and test the voltage at the starter.

Also, can you elaborate on the dash twitching? Like is it going crazy? That's the weird part.

oh didnt see him post voltage

edit; it clicks. clicking dont always mean its got enough power to start though. would like to know battery voltage.

Didn't see a year listed for your truck but I have seen a lot of battery drain issues due to the gem module along with many other ele problems. Generally for 97-02. Windshield seal would leak and water would run down into module and cause shorts. It's located on the back side of fuse panel under dash. Not sure of this helps

Help: I have a 1994 f150 4x4 and was checking for a drain on my battery.This is what I did:

I had the battery charged up and left both post of. this morning the reading was 12.6. I reconnected the positive battery cable (or whichever isn't the system ground - usually negative is ground). Now with the negative (ground) cable off, i used my meter to determine if there is a drain on the battery. I did this by placing one probe on the battery grounding terminal, and the other probe on the battery grounding cable. There should be no voltage showing but I got 12.6... I'm really confused.

It could be a failing starter solenoid, but I would check all your connections thoroughly at the battery, alternator and starter.. Even good looking connections can be bad on a battery when the terminals are stretched... Sometimes squeezing the battery terminal clamps together (while off the battery post) with a pair of pliers will help restore a clamping ability when you tighten them back on...

The teat u performed is a voltage drop test it should read 12 volts you wanna check for amp draw. Anything more than .5 milliamperes is to much than you know u have a draw

i figured out my problem. the wires leading to the alrt werent plug in fully. and now shes running like a dream!

I found the drain...it was the door switch for the dome light. Thanks and sorry I didn't post earlier, just too much happening.
