ok after reading it all, i know what im gonna do...

(2) 16" 2500 CFM 67.48
(that do 10 amp draw each)

Flex Lite 31163 157.30
(this can hold upto 45 amp draw, so i figured the two fans doing 10amp each this controller should be safe)

Hose adapter for sensor. 6.90

Metal Bracket work + misc. 15.00

bringing me in at 246.68, almost half of the cost of the "kit" that is sold.

Cant wait till summer..

Hi.

All okay, except for the fans. There is no way fans running @ 10 amps will be anywhere near 2500 cfm. They will be 50% of that, if anything. Go and review the CFM and current ratings for the RF-269 fan used in 06_F150 's installation.

Truly powerful, high performance fans that can actually supply these types of CFM's under load (e.g. mounted against, and pulling through a rad) are expensive if purchased new.

I'd recommend that you find a Motorcraft RF-86 or Mark VIII fan at a recyclers or online, or a pair of 16" Derale Tornado's, or just invest in the RF-269 shown in that install.

Controllers - either run 2 FAL controllers for a dual arrangement, as shown, or one DCC FK75 / FK95, or a Painless F5 controller, to handle the substantial operating currents.

My humble opinion only - yer truck, yer money.

thanks for the threads.

i guess i would share how i searched (not saying your wrong) just showing research (which im still doing, for the best budget and right way).

The flex a lite dual 15" fan set up that runs 5500 cfm for the f150 that cost 6xx.xx runs only 28 amp draw (i was trying to go by that).

i think a better dcc like you said with a higher amp rating would still be in better grace then the flex a lite.

im still researching and reading other threads

im getting a hold of a couple junk yards around here to see if they have the efan set up from the later years.. now just gotta look at controller.. if the dcc fk75 is good enough ill use it, but to be safe under full load and heat, wouldnt it be better to be running dcc fk95

^^^ I did not mention that fan, as I believe them to be overrated (and far too overpriced). A FAL 270 isn't even in the same league as an RF-269 in reality.

You'll no doubt note that @06_FORD used TWO controllers to safely run the RF-269. Whereas FAL specifies that one FAL controller will operate a dual FAL 270 efan. I did the math, didn't like what I saw, lol.

You'll also note you won't find the kind of detailed specs (shown for an RF-269) for a FAL anywhere. Only one 'current draw' number (no inrush number), and a CFM number with no context (load/no-load).

Again - entirely your decision, but if you depend on yer truck to be reliable under ALL conditions, the engine's cooling system is not the place to try and cut costs. Just sayin'.

good luck

yeah i saw the two controllers, that is why i was wondering wouldnt it be easier to just use dcc FK95 instead of two FAL controllers

that was a big problem i was running into as well, that no fan wanted to tell you the start up draw, running draw and full load draw for the amperage.

the FAL ready kit I agree is way over priced, if you take out the price of the controller they are offering they are saying the fan is 400ish. when the MC269 fan isnt kind close to that price.

i wonder if you were to build a shroud from plastic or aluminum to cover the whole rad, but use the fans from the MC rf269 if it would even cool it better.

I agree with MGD don't do this half way. If you need too, wait and collect parts until you can do it right. I started down your line of thought but went with the rf269 because I knew that it was sufficient because it was used on the 5.4 in the newer trucks. I was busy (lazy) and didn't check into the full current draw of both fans so that is how I ended up with two controllers. I would not recommend that route but I had an organic development. The fan assembly covers the whole radiator.

Most of these variable speed controllers have a "soft start" that ramps the fan at start up to limit inrush. That is a HUGE advantage over the relay ON/OFF systems. Also even though I recommend this fan most of the time it is overkill so a controller system will save power because 100% is not needed. I have my controllers staggered a bit and I have not had both fans turn on yet during winter driving.

i found the fan on ebay the RF269 for 180.00 new shipped, also already got an email back from a friend, he has one at the salvage yard (1 year warranty) and he will give me the wiring for 100.00.

now im just trying to figure out the controller situation, i wanted to run just one for a cleaner look.

still going with the Hose style trigger like you 06_F150

Cool that sounds like a deal! I agree one controller is the way to go. Post what you decide to go with. I can't remember what the exact numbers were but I posted in my thread what each fan draws at 100% mounted to the radiator.
