The programmers are different for the two V8 engines. You'd have to send it to Edge and have them reprogram it to work with the 4.6
Your friends Edge Evo can be used on your 4.6 if he unlocks it.There swapable.
So to answer your question. You need to make sure your friends Edge Evo is set back to 0 so its unlocked and can be used in yours.

Got some bad news for ya.You cant.He has to plug it back into his truck and set it back to stock. If you tried to hook it up and load it,it wont let you.Reason being is,every truck has its own hex/pcm code specific for that truck and the programer once it is hooked up to a truck and loaded with the Edge Evo programs thats its untill it is it is set back to stock(0) thru the programer from the original truck.Hope all that made sence. Now you can send it off to Edge and they will unlock it for ya,but it wont be free.

There is a place you can send it to be unlocked. I remember reading it in my own research on the Edge Evo (which I bought yesterday and am going to turn into a Gryphon).
It is $75 to unlock it and I cant remember if you have to send it back to Edge, Power Hungry Performance, or someone else...I hope that helps a little bit
Obviously the best way would be to find the current owner of the truck and ask for 2 minutes to unlock the programmer. Then it should be smooth sailing from there

Alrighty, I did find the truck still at the dealership, but they are sending it to the auction so legally I don't think they can let me test drive it. I was going to take it for a test drive and plug the programmer in and set it back to stock.... Yea I know dirty but it would save me some money ya know. If I can get a test drive how do I reset the programmer?????
