Edge Evo/Hypertech III
Ok guys, I know I have recently asked a similar question but I have one more before deciding to buy. I plan on getting a programmer this weekend but I have narrowed it down to two. I had originally asked about edge vs. livewire or x-cal. For various reasons I have to go with edge or hypertech power programmer III. I have read over the edge and listened to what all you guys have had to say, nothing really bad just one thing and that being edge seems to have a negative affect on the transmission...is that true or is that the case is I were to run it on the Performance tune and not use the proper gasoline? I mean I would think that with the edge just like any other programmer if you don't do what it ask then you are subject to problems with any of them? I just don't want to spend the money and then regret it later is all. But most of the guys here have an edge and love it. So my question is this, upon doing research, they have some similar features and do some of the same things, or say they do, but the hypertech has a mod called duel fuel tunning. This states that it will deliver virtually the same power increases with regular gas as they do with premium. So what do you think? Is it better to go with this one? Or should I go with the Edge, plus I am aware you get the pod but I am not sure if I know how to use it or all of the functions it consist of. Also, and sorry to ask so much, can some of you tell me what program you run your edge on and the fuel you put in? Thanks again for all of the help and look forward to your responses. Oh and if it helps, my mods are flowmaster exhaust, and k&n cold air intake...that is all I have done as far as engine goes, I don't know of anything else to get performance or speed or better gas milage. But I have plenty on the outside, I would upload a picture but agian don't know how to navigate the site to well, I will play around and see what I can find.
Get the Edge over the Hypertech. I had the Hypertech and sold it to get an Edge. Edge's power is better then Hypertech.
I run level 2 with 93 octang Timming bump up 2 degs. Even level 2 has better performance than the Hypertech had. and yes you need to run the right grade of fuel to what setting you have the programmer set to or you can ruin your engine with any programmer.
Once you tune your truck you'll hate the stock tunes, it drives a lot better.

In your other post you mentioned you were going with the Xcal II, which I thought was a great choice. Why the change of heart and decision to go with a "canned" tune over custom tuning? I think when it comes down to two similar items, costing the same amount, I'd go with the one that fits my truck better and that is obviously the Xcal II with custom tuning. The livewire is more expensive than the Xcal II, but it has the ability to hold 7 tunes (including the stock tune) and gives display guages that the Xcal II does not. Ultimately it's your money and your decision, but I could never recommend canned over custom.
is it possible with a programmer, to set it to 93 octane, or 89 octane, and put and octane booster with every tank of gas? i have a neighbor with one of the new BMW M5's, and he puts in 93 octane, and pours a bottle of octane booster which he says bumps him up close to like 101/110, one of the 2....what do you guys think?
There really is no reason to bump up the octane unless your bumping timing. He's just wasting his money. But I don't think it totally works the way he's thinking anyways. If he is wanting a higher octane tell him to buy some jet fuel

But, at the same time if you run a tune that advances timing, you are running a cooler plug and Tstat, and/or run a relatively high compression or a blower, 93 should be expected.
