I have an 04 F150 5.4. When I started the vehicle today I received a message that it was operating in safe mode. The vehicle shut down and now I can't get it to crank. I disconnected the battery to reset the computer and still nothing. Is the ECU fried?

Other questions to consider is if it is low in oil, or if it had overheated.....I know that if the truck runs hot or is overheating, it sets itself to the failsafe ("limp home mode"), so possibly it has now disabled the PATS from starting?

I'll have to read up on this one tonight in the Ford factory manuals to see if this is the case. My wifes BMW will disable starting if the oil level is detected as being too low, or if the car recently overheated.

Not sure if Ford used this capability in our trucks.

Thanks for your replys, I have it figured out. It was the Throttle control. PCM needed reprograming.
