Default E load tires ?

I was looking at getting the nitro terra grapplers 305/55/20's and was wondering if I would increase mileage by the tire by getting the E load tire? Don't pull much stuff, but I know I have a heavy truck.

Yes, getting the higher load rating like E will definitely help pro-long the life of the tire

E load tires will not get you better gas mileage. It is a noticeably heavier tire with several extra plies, thus it takes more energy to spin (and stop). At the advice from the manager at discount tire, I traded in my Dura Trac E loads for C load Nitto's and the ride was 10x better. I had both tires side by side and there was a huge difference in weight.

They're going to hurt your mpg due to their higher rolling weight like stated above. Since you're not towing often & don't need to worry about it "bagging", get a lighter tire.

I have 305/55/20 nitto terra grapplers on my f-150. I think they are real hard on the transmission from where they are so heavy. If you try to go fast, or take it off road all you will be able to smell is transmission fluid, and this is a new transmission, i think they may be the cause of my first transmission failing. will be definitely going with load range D next time around.

My load E tires 275/65/20 BGF AT are only 17lbs heavier (per tire) than my Mich LTX M/S 275/55/20. That's not a huge difference in weight in my opinion.

UPDATE: My fault, my Mich were also Load E. Sorry!

Nitto show's an XL rating for this size and not as heavy as the LT version that I have on my truck. Do you mean increasing fuel mileage or longitivity?

E-load won't prolong tire life because thats all based on Tire compound, how soft it is and what surfaces you drive on.

It's also heavier so worse for gas mileage.

I have them. they ride rougher because there is less flex in the sidewall. That is the whole point of the E over others. You can however let some air out to improve the ride when not towing. As others already stated longevity is based on the rubber compound. I am not **** enough to keep track of mileage on a regular basis so I honestly cannot see a difference in mileage with the E vs the C I had before. Mileage sucked before, still sucks. If I was worried about mileage I would have bought a different vehicle.

I was wondering about the life of the tire.... I spend a lot of time in the Green Swamp (6 million acres of timber) logging so my truck doesn't get good gas mileage driving off road over 30 miles some days. I don't think your transmission should smell from taking off fast regardless of the tires. Just my opinion, I would get that checked with it being new and all.
