Not sure if this is completely true but I'm thinking you're going to have to upgrade your alternator as well (correct me if I'm wrong I'm just trying to use logic) so that it could manage maintaining the charges in the two batteries.

I was wanting to do the same as well. Just not sure how to do it, or the best way of doing it either.

No need for higher output alt. It would be nice but unless you are CONSTANTLY drawing a TON of power the stock alt will do just fine.

The most simple way to install a second battery is to find a good location. The closer the better(to the stock bat) but it can be anywhere in the truck. Run a 4 gage positive cable from the second battery to either the current battery or the alt. Ground the second battery to the chassis and you are good to go.

Gotta watch with a marnine battery make sure you don't get a deep cycle as it doesn't take a charge very fast. Thus drawing the system down. A marine starting battery is just fine.

Your best bet is a spiral dry cell(optima or the like). Very fast charge and discharge and big power in a small package.

They mark switches to isolate one from the other and wile they aren't terribly expencive with two batteries you should be able to leave anything on over night and still start in the morning. To isolate the two is a good idea but I wouldn't be worried about my self.

On a vehicle, the battery is for starting. All other menial functions are powered by the alternator, the battery is merely a storage device and something like an electrical shock absorber.
