Default Driveshaft Issue

I posted about this earlier, and got no response. SOO, I figure a picture is worth a 1000 words.

Red indicates where the driveshaft has slipped out of the transfer case, and yellow indicates the extent of the oil leak.

I have a 2.5" leveling kit, and replaced stock blocks with 3"......I didn't notice this until after the 3" block. Really surprised that nobody else has posted this issue because I know a lot of y'all have longer blocks in the rear.

Anyways, I also posted a picture of a driveshaft spacer. Will this adjust my driveshaft back into place, and stop the leak? If so, where can I find one of these without buying the whole freakin lift kit.

Any advice appreciated.

i wouldn't think you would need that spacer. i know guys have had issues with 6" lift and bigger having to lengthen the shaft, but i would think your seal is leaking on the t-case....i can't see that little of lift causing that issue

So you think just a seal replacement will do the trick? My mechanic "friend" told me that if I drive around in it for a few weeks it will pick up all the debris in the air and stop leaking on its' own. Ever heard of this?

Makes me uneasy because I don't want to burn anything up........

Thanks ATOM.

PS: replaced all 4 shocks with the 5100 bilsteins. No noticeable ride improvement. Set to stock height, ford dealership told me I would need to get it realigned. I thought if it was set at stock height, no alignment is necessary. I told them no alignment.

yea would bet the seal is the culprit in the your situation. i wouldn't feel too easy driving my truck around and letting it stop it's leak by itself...i mean you can try it, but if it's leaking it's leaking, no 2 ways around it....i would try a new seal....you have no reason for that spacer unless you are up at least 6 plus inches

FYI whenever changing out shocks, it is a good idea to have it realigned, suspension never goes back together exactly as it was before...

I have this exact same problem and had the lip seal replaced and it still leaks. Any ideas? 2006 Model

I have a 2.5" leveling kit and 3" blocks. (The leak started prior to having either installed)

Same problem here. noticed the leak just before installing a rancho 4" lift. prior to i had 2.5" leveling kit (spacer) and 4" (total height) blocks on rear. Im def going to replace the seal and in my opinion a spacer equal to the lenght the drive shaft has backed out couldnt hurt. i could be wrong but im going to give it a try.

Yeah....I have that exact same issue. I installed my 6" BDS and it leaked the first night. I even installed the driveshaft spacer and that didnt change anything. Mine hasnt leaked since that first night and it has seemed that it resealed itself. The pinion angle is the problem. The rear blocks should be angled but they arent. The way to fix it is to add shims to get the right pinion angle. I have just let things be for now since I dont have any issues.

How much you think a dealership would charge to check this and/ or replace the seal

I know the dealership will sell the seal for under 20 and labor took my guy a little under half an hour. so it was 35 in labor and 15 for the seal. dealership is like 80-100 an hour for labor
