Default Dreaded Spark Plug Change!

I took my '04 in for the dreaded spark plug change. I have 86k on it and mpgs and power were starting to suffer. I figured I had a bit of money for it and better do before I didn't. I have all the confidence in my dealership but zero confidence in the plugs. If I can get away with only a couple breaking, I may be able to provide cheap Wal-Mart gifts for my kids. I am an E-5 in the military and a near full time student so I have a really tight budget. If ever I needed a higher power to have my back, this is the time! I wish I had known about the plug issue before I bought it though. I might have gotten a 4.6 instead...

With your pickup having less than a 100,000 miles I bet you'll be ok. Also check different dealers and prices, sometimes they vary quite a bit.

One more thing do a thread search for the spark plug change and they will show you how you can do it yourself and and save a lot of money too.

I would consider doing myself but I am not mechanically inclined... AT ALL! I am awesome at troubleshooting but hands on is totally different. The exception would be with electronics. I used to work on aircraft avionics before I became a chaplain assistant so I have a good hand for that end of things. I did pick the cheapest dealer. They also have a high success rate they say. Most other dealers in area were $90+ per broke plug. This place is only $68 per broke plug. Still am stupefied that we have to pay for Fords horrible engineering mistake.

Yep Ford messed up big time on those plugs. I'm not mechanically inclined either, but I lucked out with my 08only having one piece plugs. It sounds like you have it all figured out. Best of luck, and let us know how it goes.

With the right tools, I did mine by myself in about an hour and a half. I have 80 in the plugs and borrowed the socket/removal tool. Didn't break one at all on mine.

I wish I has the confidence in my ability to try! Did you replace old plugs with the Champions?

Why doesn't Ford use an impact?
