Default Double Din Installation kit needed??

Do I need to buy a double din installation kit to replace the current factory double din stereo that's already in the 2005 F-150?

Thank you for your help!

Others with more experience will chime in, I hope, but the short answer is yes. The factory radio isn't a true double din, you need the adapter to attach to the factory mounting points.

Yes, you'll need a dash kit. I would suggest buying from Crutchfield because they include the dash kit and wiring harness for free. Best customer service around also!!

Thanks for the info! Crutchfield didn't have the combo pack but I was able to get the kit and harness for about $15 off Amazon. Is there a separate harness needed for the steering wheel controls to work with the new stereo??

You'll usually need an adapter to get the steering wheel controls to work. Crutchfield has that, too.

Go to Crutchfield.com and start a chat session with a tech. Tell him what kind of truck you have and he'll create a 'shopping cart" that you click on. This will contain a listing of all the adapters, wire harnesses, steering wheel control kits, etc. that you'll need. Then just use the part numbers provided and buy the items on eBay or Amazon, etc. Just pretend you're going to buy from them.

Which stereo are you thinking of?

Ah! After much research I found it!!

Axxess-ASWC-1-Universal-Steering-Interface

I have a Pioneer Avic BT120 Nav that I'll be putting in it. I had it in a Hummer that I just sold and love the thing, especially with the by-pass which enables video in motion function

I'd put a nav unit in mine if the damn things didn't cost over $400.

I found mine on Craigslist for $250 but it didn't have the wiring harness. So I'd recommend keeping an eye out on there!!

Crutchfield has a great site, very helpful folks... I saved $80 by shopping the part numbers around and purchasing the same radio, wiring harness, dash kit, antenna adapter, and steering wheel adapter from a different vendor. My stuff should arrive today, we will see how it goes.
