Default Door Check Replacement

I have to replace my door check and was hoping someone her has done it before and could fill me in on what to do. I looked yesterday and couldnt even see the check from inside the cab. I looked online but didnt find a whole lot of info other than it looks like you have to remove the emergency brake. any info/help is greatly appreciated.

It's connected to the flux capacitor!

its the black arm that stops the door from opening to far. my driver side one is shot, probably from the previous owners not caring and just letting the door fly open, and as a result my door is now being stopped by the edge of the door hitting the hinge if you dont stop it first. theres two nice dents in the door because of it now.

You have to get to it through the drivers kick panel. You may have to unbolt the emergency brake pedal to get to it. Mine is going bad also and my friend that is a Ford tech told me about changing it.

Ok. Could he get any instructions or anything? Also don't let it go to long or your door will kiss the hinge.

I dont think its that tough once you get to the back of it. Like I said take off the driver side kick plate and unbolt the emergency brake pedal so yyou can get in behind there and then it should be easy to get to. Well relatively easy. If you run into a snag PM me and Ill give him a call and get you an answer. Im sur Ill be doing mine soon even though I think its just starting to go, but Im **** like that.

Old Thread, but did y'all manage to do this? I've got to do it on my 97 and I'm having trouble figured out how to get to the part behind the kick panel. Anyone take any pics?

I just replaced mine 2 days ago. It is simple and self explanatory. You do need torx heads. Reaching up behind the ebrake to catch the metal box. I unbolted it and it fell in. Other than that it is four bolts and that's it. Youll have to remove the kick panel.
